Freedom Jazz Dance: Akasha

Just a little plug for those in Manila looking for a great place to relax and listen to some sick, unfiltered jazz.  Every Monday night, Freedom bar in Anonas, Quezon City, comes alive with drummer extraordinaire sir Mar Dizon and his quartet, Akasha.  Monday evening jams have been a staple at Freedom for years already, and while the lineup undergoes changes now and then, sir Mar remains the constant force that drives the music here.  The quartet plays a healthy dose of well-known jazz standards such as Herbie Hancock’s “Cantaloupe Island“, Horace Silver’s “Song for my Father,” Miles Davis’ “Seven Steps to Heaven” while mixing in some original compositions.  The video above is an Akasha original, and a pretty damn good one at that.  Listen and enjoy.
